City Official Criticizes Quoddy Bay LNG Project
The Bangor Daily News today reports that the city manager of Eastport, Maine became the first city official to publicly declare opposition to Quoddy Bay’s proposed LNG terminal. At a special City Council meeting held Monday night, George “Bud” Finch expressed concerns over siting the facility next to Route 190, the only road into the city. Quoddy Bay project manager Brian Smith said the location was not an issue. “We don’t feel we are putting that roadway in any significant danger at all,” Smith said. Finch also criticized state officials for supporting Quoddy Bay, but not terminals at Casco Bay or Sears Island. “[W]e need to be serious about choosing the right location … it has to be a fair and balanced analysis, not just a case of ‘we get it because nobody else wants it.'” [Access to archived articles requires a fee.]
