Analysts Differ on Market Impact of Terminals Offshore Massachusetts
According to The Boston Globe, energy analysts are divided as to whether construction of one or both LNG import terminals proposed offshore Massachusetts would undermine demand for onshore terminals, such as the FERC-approved Weaver’s Cove LNG terminal. Some believe that offshore terminals will come online quicker, giving them the advantage, but others say that onshore projects like Weaver’s Cove remain viable because they offer storage capacity not available at either offshore proposal. The Globe ties the debate to Gov. Mitt Romney’s ability to veto the offshore projects before he leaves office in January 2007. [Free registration necessary.]
