Mid-December Hearings Planned for Weaver’s Cove Dredging

The Providence Journal yesterday reported that the Army Corps of Engineers has planned two public hearings in mid-December to talk about plans for Weaver’s Cove Energy to dredge the Mount Hope Bay shipping channel. Weaver’s Cove wants to remove 2.5 million cubic yards of sediment so that LNG tankers can traverse the waters, and plans to deposit the sediment in the Rhode Island Sound. Although FERC approved the LNG terminal in July, federal permits for the dredging part are necessary to advance the project. Energy Central Professional has the Providence Journal article.
