Massachusetts Representative Accuses Hess CEO of Dishonesty

Today’s Herald News reports that U.S. Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) released a letter he sent to Hess LNG CEO Gordon Shearer accusing him of making false statements regarding the legislation implemented to preserve the existing Brightman Street Bridge. Hess LNG had characterized the provision as “unconstitutional and illegal.” Frank reportedly wrote in the letter, “I think it is clear that Hess made knowingly false statements in hopes of some how getting the people of Fall River to drop their support for one of our efforts to prevent you from imposing yourself on them. I now urge you to acknowledge the falsity of that remark…You have consistently asked the people of Fall River to trust you on various matters. The likelihood that people will do so is of course diminished when you engage in argumentation that is clearly false.”
