Mass. Bill to Allow LNG Terminal on Outer Brewster Island Is Challenged for Limiting Bidders
The Boston Globe today reports that a bill, introduced in late October to permit the construction of an LNG plant on Outer Brewster Island, is being challenged as partial to AES Corp., the company behind the proposal. The bill would allow bids for the right to build the LNG plant from companies that do not currently supply LNG to Massachusetts or have project proposals to provide such supply. Brian Dempsey (D-Haverhill) and Daniel Bosley (D-North Adams) say the bill is designed to promote competition, by prohibiting companies that already supply gas to Massachusetts from bidding. The bill is expected to be reported out by a committee until January at the earliest.
