MARAD Continues to Encourage Use of U.S.-Flagged LNG Vessels

Speaking at Columbia University yesterday, U.S. Maritime Administrator Sean Connaughton said that MARAD will continue to encourage companies to use U.S.-flagged LNG vessels as a means to help meet the three largest challenges facing the agency: safety; security; and the environment. Connaughton went on to note that an expected shortfall of 30,000 LNG-certified officers in the global LNG fleet presents a prime opportunity to increase the U.S. presence in LNG shipping.
