FERC Hosts Conference on the State of the Natural Gas Industry

At a conference convened yesterday by FERC and attended by LNGLawBlog, the role of LNG in North America was discussed by several LNG industry experts, including Betsy Spomer of BG Group, Richard Grant of Suez Energy, Zach Allen of Pan Eurasian Enterprises, and Patricia Outtrim of Cheniere Energy. The speakers agreed that the United States has become a balancing market, receiving supply on a seasonal basis at times when the Henry Hub price is competitive in the global market. FERC Chairman Joseph Kelliher noted in his opening statement that “the reality is that liquefied natural gas is the fastest growing source of U.S. natural gas supply, and will remain the case for the foreseeable future. So, our gas market is steadily becoming less North American and more international.” FERC’s website provides links to PDF versions of the panelists’ presentations.
