Nine state senators from Louisiana have submitted a joint letter to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy in support of the proposed Lake Charles LNG export project.

Alaskan Utilities Negotiating for LNG Imports

Utilities in south-central Alaska are in group negotiations with LNG suppliers to import LNG starting in 2014. A representative for Municipal Light & Power told Platts LNG Daily [subscription required] that the Alaskan utilities are concerned that they may face a natural gas supply deficit beginning in 2014.

Williams Offers Competing Bid for Southern Union Co.

Williams Companies has made a $4.9 billion offer to purchase Southern Union Company, topping Energy Transfer Equity’s $4.1 billion bid announced last week.   Southern Union owns the Lake Charles LNG import terminal and several gas pipeline assets. Reuters provides additional coverage.

U.S. Diplomatic Cables Discuss AES Ocean Express LNG Proposal

The Nassau Guardian reports that several U.S. diplomatic cables obtained via Wikileaks discuss the failed Ocean Express LNG terminal and pipeline project proposed by AES Corp. According to the newspaper, the cables detail a series of negotiations between AES and the government of The Bahamas.
