Phenton Neymour, The Bahamas’ State Minister for Public Utilities, told the Bahama Journal that the petroleum industry in his country has been poorly regulated to date and that legislative action is required. Neymour suggested that before The Bahamas can support a major energy project, such as the construction of an LNG import terminal, more pressing concerns must be dealt with, including improved safety and environmental regulations.
