Rejection of Long Beach Project May Bolster Support for Other LNG Projects

Local environmental activists applauded the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners’ rejection of Sound Energy Solutions’ proposed LNG facility at Long Beach, Calif., but fear that the rejection may encourage support for other LNG projects in California. While the developers of other LNG terminals reserved comment on the Long Beach decision, a BHP Billiton official asserted that his company’s Cabrillo Port terminal and the proposed facility at Long Beach are inherently different. “Our view is that each project must be looked at individually,” said Patrick Cassidy, the company’s director of public affairs. The Ventura County Star has the story.
