TORP Holds First Hearing on Offshore LNG Project
TORP Technology last night held the first in a series of public hearings on its open-loop LNG terminal proposed 63 miles south of Alabama in the Gulf of Mexico. Chief Executive Officer Lars Odeskaug said that critics of open-loop terminals may find the TORP project more appealing because of the terminal’s deep water location, which he says will help minimize the impact on aquatic life. TORP officials have met several times with Alabama Gov. Bob Riley to discuss the project. No decision is expected from Riley until next year, and the Associated Press reports that environmental organizations are withholding comment until the draft Environmental Impact Statement is released.
