C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.) says AES’ Sparrows Point LNG proposal would endanger residents and hamper neighborhood revitalization efforts in Baltimore. In an op-ed published today by The Baltimore Sun [paid archives], Ruppersberger says that because the Coast Guard monitors the Cove Point LNG facility and the port of Baltimore, its “surveillance capabilities could be stretched thin if another plant is opened nearby.” Ruppersberger’s opinion piece follows a March 21 letter he sent to FERC asking the Commission to deny AES’ application when it is filed.
