Experts Predict Increased Competition for LNG Supplies

More international players will vie for North American gas supplies in the coming years, industry experts said at last week’s Strategic Research Institute’s Sixth Annual LNG: Economics & Technology conference in Houston. According to Jake Dweck, head of the LNG group at Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan LLP, the increased competition makes it important to understand international open access rules. “Each significant LNG player in this competitive environment has to learn all of the regulations, access rules and contract rules in the United States and Europe,” he said. Sara J. Banaszak, senior economist with the American Petroleum Institute, says that the inclination of the United States to lean toward natural gas for industrial production will lead to a greater demand for LNG imports.
