Coastal Zone Bill Attempts to Thwart LNG Development in NY Waters

Bill A09257, introduced Jan. 4 in the New York Assembly, would prohibit the construction of “heavy industry,” which is defined to include LNG terminals, in the New York coastal zone. It likewise would prohibit new “off-shore gas, liquid or solid bulk transfer facilities, including LNG terminals for receiving, storage and processing.” The bill states that offshore bulk product transfer and LNG facilities “represent a significant danger of pollution to the coastal zone.”
