Scientists Oppose Petronas’s Proposed Pacific NorthWest LNG Terminal

A group of 90 international climate change scientists and climate policy experts has sent a letter to Canada’s Environmental Minister Catherine McKenna requesting that she “reject the proposed Pacific Northwest (PNW) LNG project due its significant adverse environmental effects from greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.”  Malaysian state oil company Petronas is the primary sponsor of the project.  The letter states that the project “would be one of the single largest point source emitters in Canada[,] …would add between 18.5 and 22.5% to British Columbia’s (BC) total GHG emissions[,] … would make it virtually impossible for BC to meet its GHG emission reduction targets, and would undermine Canada’s international climate change commitments.”
