N.Y. Governor Cuomo Rejects Port Ambrose Deepwater LNG Port

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has sent a letter to the U.S. Maritimes Administration (MARAD) disapproving of the grant of a deepwater port license for Liberty Natural Gas’s proposed Port Ambrose Deepwater Port LNG import terminal for offshore New York and New Jersey.  According to the letter, the Deepwater Port Act requires the approval from the governor of each adjacent coastal state before MARAD may issue a deepwater port license.  Among the reasons for disapproval, the letter cites security concerns, the potential for catastrophic impacts during severe weather, the disruption of commercial navigation and maritime activities, and interference and conflicts with state renewable energy projects.
