Senate Finance Committee Approves Highway Trust Fund Bill with Bennet-Udall Measure to Treat LNG Equally to Diesel Fuel

The Senate Finance Committee approved a bill to sustain the Highway Trust Fund into early 2015. The Preserving America’s Transit and Highways Act includes a provision to introduced by Senator Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), Senator Richard Burr (R-N.C.), and Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) to allow liquefied natural gas (LNG) to be treated comparably with diesel fuel by requiring that LNG be taxed on energy output rather than per gallon rather than per gallon. The bill now moves to the full Senate for a vote.
