ExxonMobil Outlines Pluses and Minuses of Alaska LNG Project

The Alaska Journal of Commerce reports that ExxonMobil, co-sponsor of the Alaska LNG project, recently gave a presentation to the Alaska legislature outlining the pluses and minuses of the project, of which the State of Alaska is a 25% partner.  Pluses include existing gas production infrastructure on Alaska’s North Slope, close proximity to Asian markets, and experienced regulators at FERC.  Minuses include the need for an expensive facility to treat the gas, which has a high carbon dioxide content, and the need to construct the 800-mile pipeline and associated infrastructure from the North Slope to the proposed export terminal at Nikiski, which could cost $15 billion.  North Slope producers BP and ConocoPhillips are the other sponsors of the project.
