New Report Projects $283 Billion of Planned LNG Projects Potentially Unneeded by 2025

Carbon Tracker Initiative has released a report that identifies $283 billion of potential LNG projects that by 2025 are likely to be surplus if increased global gas demand is restrained “to stay within a carbon budget that limits global warming to the 2⁰C United Nations’ target.”  By 2035, the study finds the value of unneeded LNG projects rises to $379 billion, with $82 billion of unneeded potential capital expenditures in LNG plants in Canada, $71 billion in the United States and $68 billion in Australia “in the lower global gas demand scenario.”  The report can be found here.
